If the roles were reversed and we were forced to flee we wouldn’t expect to be treated the way many immigrants are here
@9G4TNX21yr1Y
They’re fleeing their own country for safety, the least we can do is have a heart and give them a chance to live. They benefit the country, they’re not taking jobs. We should all remember that nobody in this country actually came from this country - Vikings, Anglo-Saxons etc. We’re all descendants from Europe - nobody is just British
@9G5XZHN1yr1Y
Immigration allows for a greater import of both low and high skilled labour, and helps diversify the country and educate the native British population on other cultures
@9FXXTSK1yr1Y
Immigrants are just people who want better for themselves and their family, where they are born should not determine whether they are allowed a safe or happy life. There is more than enough money and housing to go around, if only the very rich were a little less selfish.
@9GVDR4G1yr1Y
We do not as the majority of immigrants work hard when they arrive, and the UK Population is not exponentially growing
They are coming here for safety and deserve it. They’re people and they deserve respect and a chance.
@9FTS4RC1yr1Y
Immigrants enrich our culture and make up the vast majority of our national services such as the NHS. Without them we wouldn't gave got through the pandemic.
@9G7LCVF1yr1Y
Aren't we all immigrants? Maybe from prior generations, but why should only the newer immigrants be penalized?
@9G2FT3L1yr1Y
The more people that come into the country the more likely the country makes more money which is also good for the people that come in due to entering a somewhat safe country and the opportunities that it gives them.
@9G8RCFD1yr1Y
It’s the same Immigrants that run this country, the same immigrants the kohi noor was stolen from. We dont
They are fleeing for safety and choose the UK for a reason therefore the UK should have just as much belief in them
Without immigrants, we would have hardly any quaternary or tertiary industry jobs such as doctors - they are an integral part of our community.
@9ZT4DDH3mos3MO
De to Brexit we are now more reliant on foreign, i.e. non-EU, labour than ever before. We need to rejoin the European Union
@9ZJRCJG 3mos3MO
Today, each native British couple is having 1.5 children, and that figure is falling. Fifty years ago that figure was 3.0. You need it to be 2.1 to maintain a level population. These figures are similar across Europe, each county is going through the process of a rapidly ageing native population coupled to a population collapse. Over the coming couple of decades, young workers/contributors will become a hideously overstrained resource. Immigrants are the only viable solution, and there is going to be a hell of a fight to get them. We need to, today, focus on making the UK the #1 place for immigrants of various education-levels to go to. If native Brits had more kids, we wouldn't need to do this. But they're not, so we do.
@9YJWLBQWomen's Equality 3mos3MO
Define too many, as there is no specific value that limits what the minimum or maximum is. Besides, quality over quantity. Who the immigrants are and how they are contributing to society matters more than the number of immigrants there are.
@9QPP6V97mos7MO
Immigration is integral to our economy. You are more lily to be helped by an immigrant (doctors, nurses, train/bus/taxi driver) than to to be on a waiting list because of them.
@9QLMP357mos7MO
I would argue we do not have enough of the 'right' immigration. We do not have enough skilled workers but I also love the idea that the UK is built on immigration and this diversity is a huge part of British culture.
@9PTJ8RH8mos8MO
We need immigrants to fulfil certain roles. There are many vacancies in many sectors. Some sectors, like scientific research, are benefitted from a mix of nationalities and experiences. In addition, every safe country has a moral duty to accept refugees fleeing from terrible conditions. If my family and I were suffering due to problems in this country, and I could improve their lives elsewhere, I would like the chance to live somewhere else. If my family were at risk of harm, I would hope to find refuge elsewhere. If I want this for myself and my family, how can I deny it to others?
@9PRTQLZ 8mos8MO
immigrants make up a large part of the key workforce and in my opinion, this statement is untrue as if someone wants to move to the UK that is a good thing as we can integrate their culture.
@9PM6MXV8mos8MO
Without immigrants, the UK would not be able to provide the wide range of public services that they currently do.
@9P6RQTW8mos8MO
Immigration has allowed the country to survive. For example, after the wreckage of WW2 immigrants were employed to rebuild the country. "There was a significant demand for labour which came not only from the Caribbean but also from mainland Europe, Ireland, India, and Pakistan." - national archives.
@9P5BPNK8mos8MO
We actually have far fewer than many countries and migration tends to benefit the countries involved.
@9P4HTRB8mos8MO
No, we don't. Britain is aging and paying for society requires more people than we currently have, and this will become more important as time passes by. The way we get more people is hoping that people choose to move here. Therefore, we should absolutely not be trying to decrease the number of immigrants coming into this country.
@9P4CLLQ8mos8MO
Immigration provides financial stimulation and innovation across most industries, as well as cultural and social growth, when administrated correctly. The benefits far outweigh the negatives.
@9P4BYPQLiberal Democrat8mos8MO
We have NHS waiting lists, our care homes are under-staffed, our farmers struggle to get their yields picked, and we have skills shortages in engineering and technology.
@9P2XYZQ8mos8MO
We need immigration to keep the country running. Without the right levels our country wouldn’t be able to function. Not just in high skilled but lower skilled works as well
there are hundreds of empty investment properties - there's plenty of space - just because someone's fate was to be born in a country, that doesn't mean they should have to stay there
There is a shortage of workers across various industries throughout the UK. The notion that we are ‘full’ is nonsense. We should be making it easier for migrants to find work and process those claiming refugee status much more quickly.
@9NM8PS7Liberal Democrat8mos8MO
Net migration is a more important figure to be concerned about. As a country with low unemployment figures, we struggle to find people for lower paid jobs such as in farming and distribution, or to attract drs and nurses to our medical system. Our immigration policy needs to attract more of these people, not restrict them.
We have less than 1% of the world’s displaced people. In the global context, in relation to the United Kingdom’s wealth and historical/present day responsibility, we have a minor amount of immigrants and displaced people. Especially compared to our European counterparts. Furthermore, one of the most effective things a nation state can do to enhance its growth is open its borders. History across the globe has shown a positive correlation between immigration and growth (economic, cultural, social, and political). Migration is just the fundamental step forward of humankind.
Migrants can contribute just as much, if not more to society. It is basic human rights to provide somewhere safe for people to live when fleeing war etc
@9NBB2PR8mos8MO
We have a distinct skills gap across so many sectors of the economy. With less children being born now than ever, we need more immigrants to support our talent shortage.
@9N9TB2J8mos8MO
its inhumane to deny people the safety of our country. we should treat them with respect as they are still humans living on the same planet. and to think if we were on the reversed side we would wish for the country to be kind to us.
@9N8VFBJ8mos8MO
We are a country needing immigrants for the NHS, care & transport. We are globally connected. Brexit showed that we can’t go it alone, we are a better place with immigrants
@9N8PC6B8mos8MO
Immigrants are the most vulnerable in our society and we should open doors to those who need it most. This country is one of freedom and love, opportunity should be given to all and continue to develop the incredible multicultural society we are becoming, we have plenty of space to allow people to build a future life here
@9N8MFPS8mos8MO
Immigration is not only good for the economy but also lots of things that make this country great is owed to foregein culture
@9N896YC9mos9MO
Needed productivity growth in our economy will only be achieved through increasing the size of the workforce in the U.K., particularly in Scotland.
@9N7G45X9mos9MO
Should all expats be flown away to Rwanda? Is the problem how much money migrants have or is it their skin colour and/or culture? Do you have a list of countries whose people you do not want here? Ot is it all migrants? How do you feel about the Windrush generation? Would you accept treatment from a migrant doctor?
@9N7BN2S9mos9MO
Immigrants keep this country running, my dentist and doctor and optician are all immigrants and they are awesome
@9N6SR9T9mos9MO
I would argue that the public has been misinformed on true immigration rates and that Brexit, which most anti-immigration members of the public voted for has actually increased migration rates particularly from non-EU members.
@9N56DL99mos9MO
Immigrants are just people who want better for themselves and their family, where they are born should not determine whether they are allowed a safe or happy life. There is more than enough money and housing to go around, if only the very rich were a little less selfish.
@9N4Z5MR9mos9MO
immigrants can benefit the country especially if they are high skilled.They are humans and should be welcomed
@9LTBSJY10mos10MO
The birth rate in the United Kingdom is too low and without immigration we will not have enough young people to pay taxes and therefore fund our NHS and pensions in the future.
@9LSPZBZ10mos10MO
If the roles were reversed and we were forced to flee we wouldn’t expect to be treated the way many immigrants are here
@9LSP6YMLiberal Democrat10mos10MO
We are all human beings and everyone should be treated with kindness we should be open to everyone no matter their background.
@9LSM7ZL10mos10MO
Immigrants make up masses of members of the NHS - without them the NHS would struggle more than it already does
@9LRKBZQ10mos10MO
The immigrants are working and paying taxes with no recourse to public funding yet funding those that are living off Government/public funding. The Immigrants have to pay thousands in International Health surcharge and still pay national Insurance as well
@9LQY8N510mos10MO
stop being nasty **** and accept that people move from different countries, they are not stealing your jobs or homes or whatever they are literally just people trying to do better in their life and live happier
@9LQ6YPG10mos10MO
They are people who want the best for them and there family and they decide to risk there life for there family because they are desperate. They come here and they benefit us they take jobs that need to be filled and if you think that there 'stealing jobs' there aren't enough workers and they benefit the economy. People decide that they are doing bad things because they are selfish and racists and decide that people should have to go through trauma because they might think it inconvenience them. These people have seen everything and they are trying to save them and there family, rather than being selfish and petty like politicians who try to convince you they are bad
@9LPGXYD10mos10MO
Most immigrants need safety more than citizens of the UK, they should be welcomed. There is plenty of empty housing in the UK.
@9LNDBPC10mos10MO
No lots of the UK's economy especially in agriculture is dependent on migrant and temporary works coming from both Europe and other areas of the world
We don’t. Look at how many vacancies we have. And can’t fill. And how much richer we are societally, culturally & morally when we welcome immigrants.
@9LDC8YP10mos10MO
Immigrants contribute in both underprivileged and working class areas and the upper echelons of society towards the betterment of our economy, often times doing the work British citizens would choose not to do. There is a severe lack of minorities and women who a born in the UK in stem fields for example, and immigrants fill those gaps and keep our economy afloat.
@9L8RPRY10mos10MO
imigrants should have a place in this country as its safe and not many people have the luxury of being in a safe space. its not their fault their country has become unsafe.
This country was built on immigrants, without immigration this country would collapse as there wouldn't be anybody willing to fill in the gaps left by natives here. Let us take the opportunity to show appreciation to the significance of immigration and how it has helped our country to remain afloat. You may say that we have too many immigrants so just think to yourself why are they coming to our country in the first place; is it to seek a better quality of life? Is it to escape the chaos in their native land? Ultimately, countries just watching crises in other nations unfold will have… Read more
@9L4VTC511mos11MO
Immigration is good for economy because it fills jobs and allows for new knowledge and information, certain immigrants will have skills which are needed. However, is they come to the country they must want to work or study
@9L4PJXY11mos11MO
We shouldn't have any immigration laws, we should have no borders. Borders are a made up concept. We should all be allowed to travel freely around the world
Immigrants provide cultural diversity to the UK giving them a wealth of diferent clothing, food and ideas for businesses
@9J7YXYS1yr1Y
No, your stupid. Diversity is important in the world and although we have an increased number of immigrants they are simply coming to seek sanctuary and/or a better life. Imagine if we had to do this, and we had to immigrate somewhere, I'd be angry too if I was denied simply because I wanted a better life for myself.
@9H4S3BG1yr1Y
We don't have enough workers to run this country, and immigration is the easiest and cheapest way of filling that need
@9H4M73F1yr1Y
They provide doctors, skilled workers and diversity, in exchange for refuge, it’s human rights and only good
@9H38T5Z1yr1Y
Each person who tries to get to the UK is in fact finding us a safehaven and will provide economic benefits.
@9H2RBHT1yr1Y
We don’t as there are ample resources for everyone, if spent rationally. Immigration brings younger, skilled, hard working people that only strengthen existing communities and economies. Also given that the UK has caused failed states and domestic/regional wars in multiple countries abroad it owes its dues to refugees seeking safe haven.
They are not integrated correctly within our country, we should do a better job of integrating these immigrants within our country
@9GZSJC31yr1Y
The world needs empathy and compassion not dehumanisation. People do not leave their homes lightly and those that do are showing such brave and determined nature we would be lucky to have them.
Immigrants play a huge role in the national economy and many people's lives have been greatly improved from moving to a much better place than where they came from.
@9GYCJGL1yr1Y
The Uk is a country that has enough resources to be able to provide for those born into war zones or poverty impoverished countries.
@9GVXLHW1yr1Y
A diverse ethnic and multicultural population will only enrich the UK. Diversity has been shown to be beneficial in workplaces in terms of the creativity and perspective they bring consequently boosting the profitability of the company. The immigrants I know are generally more hard working than many citizens.
In terms of refugees, the way they are treated and talked about is abysmal. They should be supported and welcomed, provided housing, wifi and the ability to contribute to the country.
@9GRKDX51yr1Y
They should help the economy and help other counties going through similar experiences to reduce immigration.
Humans move, that's the most natural thing for humans to do. In fact, the more immigrants we we who are from poorer countries and willing do work in less desirable jobs for less the cheaper and better services in the UK. We can already see how harsh immigration policy has affected the NHS as well as other sectors such as lorry drivers, hence the period post-brexit when fuel wasn't reaching petrol stations. We have enough jobs to go around, that isn't the issue. Our current cost of living crisis is being driven by record profits, that, is the issue.
@9GQ3WYF1yr1Y
If you take any measure, this is incorrect. Too many for whom? Immigrants on the whole have and continue to make a positive contribution to our society. Even so, anyone who is seeing refuge from danger should have a safe place to go. People also have a right to seek oppourtu ties elsewhere. Borders are somewhat arbitrary.
@9GBGD761yr1Y
‘Too many’ is qualitative and will forever be a moving bar. As soon as you argue that one number is ‘too many’, a xenophobe will argue that a lower number is ‘too many’.
It is an argument that benefits racism more than the national interest.
Immigrants are making the workforce stronger, a lot of NHS staff immigrated over here and are some of the best nurses/care assistants/doctors I’ve worked with.
How do we measure if net migration is too high or too low? Are we basing this belief on fact or fear? Xenophobia? I think it is important to reflect on this.
I do not believe it is ethical to deny people safety and relief from disaster, persecution, and war. It is pure luck to not find yourself in this situation. What would you do if you were living in a space in which you are frequently unsafe? We need to adapt and advance our infrastructure to this situation. We cannot reject people in need. This is cruel. Imagine if that was your child, your partner? 'Smashing the gangs' is an emb… Read more
It's not simply a case of numbers of immigrants, as to why have they fled their homes, and how they contribute to our society.
@9NPR4TK8mos8MO
The UK is founded on immigration and made it's own world position by being immigrants (although not used as a term at that point). To prevent immigrants from seeking support from the country of their choosing would be heinous. The society thrives best on mixed cultures and populations. The use of the word immigration is also inherently classist and white owned. We wouldn't call a white British person in another country an immigrant, we would call them an expat.
People should have the right to travel to seek a better life and future for their families, to find safety from suffering.
We shouldn't be giving heed to racist notions and voices, peace and acceptance should be the goal.
@9NFF8858mos8MO
We currently have a crisis from the lack of working people. Bus drivers for example. If anything we need more to be able to tackle this concern. Or our country will not be able to provide for it's self
@9NFD3W28mos8MO
Immigrants make up a tiny proportion of the UK's population. The attitude to immigrants from Western European countries is notably different to immigrants from the MENA region.
Immigrants are not what is causing the financial issues in our society. They're caused to a large degree by corruption, fraud and effectively theft by the current government.
We already have labour shortages in many important sectors, which is only going to worsen with an aging population
Whether someone was born in this country or not, has nothing to do with whether they have a positive impact on our country. Many of our country's services and industries are held up by immigrants and they've often played a pivotal role in the development of our country. Who's decides how many immigrants are too many?
@9MSBK4Q9mos9MO
We have an ageing population and need working age people to grow the economy. Society benefits from a diverse population.
@9MPXT959mos9MO
Immigrants largely contribute to our workforce and it is inhumane to reject them from living with safety and stability in the UK
@9MPKHZ79mos9MO
There is enough money and resources for everyone, the problem is more that the super rich are controlling it all and pitting the working class people against eachother, scapegoating immigrants and other people groups for problems that are caused by their own greed.
@9MP9D4S9mos9MO
The cultural enhancement of the country is linked directly to immigration. Skilled migrants work jobs that the British are unwilling to fulfil. Mainly they work hard and pay taxes
It's not a question of if we have too many or too less. We need to attract good talent for around the globe like how the United States does.
@9MBZPYJConservative9mos9MO
As an immigrant, the path to legal status is long and expensive. If someone were to improve the UK why not have them work here
@9M5CPM39mos9MO
Have a look at how many bone idle people there are in the uk what’s the issue with giving people jobs who want to want especially since figures show immigrants partake in unappealing jobs that uk born people don’t want to do. People who say they’re too many immigrants are either politicians who want a scapegoat or racist
@9M49SHY 9mos9MO
Immigrants are the lifeblood of our country. We wouldn't be who we are with no multiculturalism, and immigrants are an important part of our society.
@9M4366M9mos9MO
we relied on polish workers coming in from the EU for years, they paid tax and reports show that many of the immigrants working in Britain are filling job roles which were not being done by Brits previously.
@9M3ZJNK9mos9MO
There are far too many jobs that need filling and immigrants provide that. They also boost the economy!
@9LYWXCX10mos10MO
They need help in other to live a bette life. There is a reason that they left their country, so there should be some help so that they can live in another country without feeling unwelcome. There is no point in sending them back to their country as they have left it for a reason and not to come back just after arriving in their desired country.
@9LXWPVR10mos10MO
No we don’t we could have more people doing jobs like supermarket workers and we should welcome and legal immigrants
@9LXKBN510mos10MO
What is a realistic definition of too much? what we don't have is enough housing, GPs etc, and thats a different problem of a lack of social infrastructure.
@9LWVYWB10mos10MO
When we have the financial and geographical resources to be able to support people, it would be inhumane no to
@9LWM7F910mos10MO
Immigrants are still people, if there are to many people in our country then it’s not them but the population as a wholes problem.
@9LWDG4510mos10MO
We have vacancies in the health service that need filling and immigrants are the best way of filling those vacancies
@9LVLBDQ10mos10MO
Currently immigrants support the UK by working low wage jobs that most disregard, supporting the rest of society
@9LVFSDX10mos10MO
We do not we need to process them quicker and have schemes to send back to safe countries that they have left and make safe routes for those who do not have a safe country of origin. I'm
