While individualism has been most influential in Western societies, especially in shaping liberal and libertarian traditions, its principles have also sparked debates and adaptations in various cultural and political contexts around the world. Critics of individualism sometimes argue that it can lead to social fragmentation or neglect of communal responsibilities, but its advocates maintain that protecting individual rights is essential for human dignity and flourishing.
