The self-funding argument concedes the financial problem but leaves the political one entirely intact. The monarchy's deeper issue isn't what it costs - it's what it is: an unelected constitutional actor with real, non-ceremonial power. The royal prerogative allows the monarch to appoint and dismiss prime ministers, dissolve parliament, and ratify treaties - powers exercised through convention but never voted on by anyone. Because they are redundant. The only reason people still support them is due to relentless positive propaganda from the mainstream as opposed to exposing them, for which there is plenty to be exposed.

In an equal society why should they get any funding? Why do they get to open parliament etc. Why can you or I not do these things?

they should have to live normal working class lives and not be put above us like they are better, they shouldnt be living in these lovley houses when they have never worked a job they should have to work normal jobs

If they are to be kept, then yes they should have less funding, but the monarchy has not done anything to make the country a better place. If anything it is keeping the continuous divide between the rich and the poor.
