I feel like it’s very much persons conviction specific. Like depending on the offence they was convicted of. That is non violent. It needs to be assessed on an individual’s basis and risks they may potentially pose. Like if someone is found to have explicit context on their devices of a minor. Or have tried to engage in sexual activity by manipulating the minor. Into it. Then they should serve their time. Whereas if someone was there for shop lifting. I think then they just may need finical help and support and help them into the community. There is always a reason behind why someone shoplifts and usually. It’s because of being addicted to dangerous substances and trying to fund them. And just not being able to live either off what universal credit is giving them. Or what their monthly take home is.

There should be strict guidelines on who can be released and a plan should be created either for all released prisoners or individually that ensures regular monitoring, community work and support for mental health or social issues.
