450,000 Palestinians have fled Rafah since Israel ordered more of the city evacuated on Saturday, the UN’s agency for Palestinian refugees said on Tuesday. Reports from the city suggest that Israeli forces are closing in on its densely-populated urban core.The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) ordered people in the southeastern neighborhoods of Rafah to leave “immediately” on Saturday, with IDF spokesman Avichai Adraee warning that Israeli forces were preparing to strike Hamas targets there “with great force.” The IDF has now evacuated the entire eastern third of the city following a similar order given earlier this month.In a statement on Tuesday, the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) said that 450,000 people had heeded the orders. “People face constant exhaustion, hunger and fear. Nowhere is safe,” the statement read. “An immediate cease-fire is the only hope.”

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has cancelled foreign trips as a Russian offensive in north-east Ukraine intensifies.Russian forces have recaptured the symbolically important village of Rabotino in Zaporozhye Region, the Defense Ministry reported on Wednesday.The territorial gain was achieved through military action against the Ukrainian forces in the region, in which the adversary lost up to 25 troops and a US-made M777 howitzer, the ministry’s update on the Ukraine conflict said.Ukraine has pulled back troops from some areas in the border region.But the Ukrainian military insists it is "not allowing the Russian occupiers to gain a foothold."Meanwhile in Kyiv, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken announces an extra $2bn of US funding for Ukraine."We're rushing ammunition, armored vehicles, missiles, air defences to get them to the front lines," Blinken says

This new underground line will extend the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) through San Jose and Santa Clara, which are already served by the region’s Caltrain and public buses.A decade ago, the duplicative subway was estimated to cost $4.4 billion and open in 2026. Local transportation planners wanted BART to “ring” the San Francisco Bay. Estimated costs have since ballooned to $12.75 billion—$2.1 billion a mile—owing to inflation and engineering changes. Now service isn’t expected to start until 2037.A local project manager blamed soaring costs and delays on “a shortage of skilled labor in the Bay Area and the country.” Perhaps more construction workers would be available if the Administration weren’t splashing around hundreds of billions of dollars on green energy and public works like the Silicon Valley subway.
